Summary:The patients was a 44-years-old male, with chief complaints of cloudiness of consciousness which was later superimposed by frequent spells of hiccup. Pulsation of his left common carotid artery was not recognized, and obstruction of this artery was confirmed by arteriogram that was taken prior to surgery. Thrombi were removed from the left common carotid artery, and also partially from the left external and internal carotid arteries. Since this surgical procedure, the hiccup had completely disappeared, and cloudiness of consciousness had been gradually improved as well as the general condition, although moderate grade of cerebral atrophy was disclosed by pneumoencephalogram.
