Abstract | We investigated whether air thinning of bonding resin affects marginal microleakage using three self-etching primer systems: Clearfil Megabond,UniFil Bond and Imperva Fluorobond. Class V cavities that had been prepared on the mesial and distal surfaces of extracted human molars were filled with Clearfil APX after applying one of the three systems. On each tooth, the bonding resin was thinned by using a brush on one of the cavities and by blowing air from a dental syringe in the other. At the enamel margin, there was no significant difference in microleakage between brush thinning and air thinning for any of the three systems. At the gingival margin, the microleakage with brush thinning was significantly smaller than that with air thinning when Clearfil Megabond or Imperva Fluorobond were used (p<0.05). When UniFil Bond was used, although the leakage with brush thinning was smaller than that with air thinning, there was no significant difference. We concluded that a favorable seal with enamel could be achieved with all three of the systems. However, although a favorable seal with dentin could be achieved by thinning the bonding resin using a brush, it could not be achieved by air blowing. (J Osaka Dent Univ 2005 ; 39 : 33-36.) |
