Abstract Concurrent with the Paris Colloquy the Franks discovered a home-grown image quarrel. Bishop Claudius of Turin, perhaps shortly after he became bishop between 816 and 818, began removing and destroying images and preaching against them. Claudius’s actions were brought to the attention of Louis’s court and the emperor deputed two of his theologian-bishops to investigate the matter. Jonas of Orléans, who had been heavily involved with the Paris proceedings, penned one lengthy treatise and Dungal, the master of the school in Pavia, authored another.
