Abstract 慢性のネコ第一次体性感覚野 (SI) より単一ニューロン活動を記録し, 口腔内と顔面領域の投射様式について調べた。SIの3a野と3b野で549個の単一ニューロンを同定し, 感覚種, 受容野などの性質を調べた.同定したニューロンは, ほとんどが口腔内か顔面領域に限局した受容野を持っていた。口腔内領域に受容野を持つニューロンの約65%は3a野で, また顔面領域に受容野を持つニューロンの約60%は3b野で記録された. また, 口腔内と顔面の重複投射部位は3a野と3b野の境界部付近と3b野の腹側部に認められた.前者の重複部位では舌と口周囲部に受容野を持つニューロンが, 後者の部位では舌と鼻部に受容野を持つニューロンが混在していた.この重複投射は口腔内と顔面領域の協調した複雑な動き, たとえば舌で上口唇や鼻を砥めたりする行動などを遂行するために重要であると考えられる.
