Summary: | By the method of cinefluorography with synchronization system and time measurement, the behaviour of tongue movement of normals and tongue thrusters was analyzed during the phonation of the selected speech sounds /s/ and /t/. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the better analyzing method to obtain the physiological characteristics of the tongue thrust. As the preliminary report, this study was confined to get the informations about the abnormal pattern of tongue tip movement and the time relationship between the articulatory movement and the sound produced. From the observation of the tongue movement in three normals and two thrusters, the following conclusions seem warranted: (a) At the onset of phonation, the articulatory positions of thrusters were quite different from those of nomals. (b) The process of movement from the rest to the articulatory position in thrusters showed the peculiar pattern of movement, and required the certain time, while the normals showed the smooth and quick pattern of movement. (c) The whole process of the articulatory movement in thrusters revealed the irregular pattern of movement and also a large amount of movement compared with the normals;it was suggested that there would be some factors which might perturb the articulatory function of the normal tongue behaviour. |
