Emergency resection and reconstruction were required in 158 cases (73.5%), and leakage occurred in only 5 (3.2%). Hartmann's operation was done in 42 cases of advanced carcinoma or very poor general condition. Colostomy was done in 9 and later resection in 5. Rectal amputation was done in 6, including 2 after transanal tube decompression. Surgical mortality was 1.9%, with 211 cases were discharged with remission.
