Abstract Identifications of propellents and synergists in some commercial insecticidal aerosols in the preceding report showed that the compositions indicated on their labels were not always reliable. Therefore, quantitative determinations of the synergists were necessary on those samples though the chemical determination were very difficult. Attempts have been made by the author to find a simple and rapid method of determination by application of the infrared absorption spectroscopy. Standard samples of lethane 384, allethrin (pyrethrin), MGK 264, piperonyl butoxide and sulfoxide were taken and 2155, 1720, 1180, 943 and 945 cm -1, respectively, were chosen as the key band. Six kinds of standard mixed samples in kerosine were prepared, each of them was placed in a cell of 0.1 mm thickness and the light absorbancy of each key band was estimated by the base-line method as one component system to give the results within ±0.2% error. Eleven kinds of commercial products were chosen and the contents were determined as above. The results showed that there were considerable differences in compositions from those indicated on labels.
