Abstract The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 12 antibiotics (ampicillin, oxytetracycline, chloramphenicol, dihydrostreptomycin, kanamycin, apramycin, gentamycin, colistin, bicozamycin, nalidixic acid, trimethroprin, and sulfadimethoxine) were determined by the agar dilution method with 105 strains of Escherichia coli isolated from piglets with postweaning diarrhea. The results were as shown below. 1) Of total 105 isolates, 92.4%, 91.4%, 91.4%, 80%, 25.7%, 16.2% and 3.8% were resistant to sulfadimethoxine (SA), oxytetracycline (TC), dihydrostreptomycin (SM), kanamycin (KM), ampicillin (ABPC), chloramphenicol (CP), and bicozamycin (BCM). All of them were sensitive to the other antibiotics. 2) A total of 99 strains (94.3%) after excluding 6 strains sensitive to all the tested antibiotics showed resistances to one up to six of the antibiotics, subject to the combinations of these agents, and 12 patterns of resistances were identified. The most common pattern of the resistance was the multiple one against 4 agents, especially the most common against the combination of TC, SA, SM and KM amounting to 45 strains (42.9%).
