Summary:Five hundred twenty-six Patients with malignant tumors were treated by radiotherapy in the Department of Radiology of Gunma University Hospital from January 1, 1977, to December 31, 1978. The follow-up results were as follows. 1. The overall five-year relative survival rate was 46%. 2. In 346 patients treated by radical radiotherapy, the five-year survival rate was 66%. 3. In 159 patients treated to prolong life (palliative irradiation), the one-year, two-year and five-year survival rates were 37%, 16% and 7%, respectively. 4. Fifteen out of 21 patients irradiated for relief of symptoms, e.g., bleeding, pain and obstruction, were fully relieved.
