Abstract The development strategy of the electronics industry and the high rates of scientific and technological progress in electronics, radio engineering, communications and ICT require the formation of new competencies of technical specialists who meet the requirements of a new technological order. The article is devoted to substantiating the need to modernize higher engineering education due to the impact of the nature of technological progress, the principles of the recent industrial revolutions, the transition to the latest generations of mobile communications, promising markets for electronic products, as well as the use of new learning tools and technologies, including the gamification method. The objectives, formats and procedures for conducting classes in the form of game situations for the implementation of promising competence indicators for electronics, radio engineering, communications and ICT specialists have been defined.
