Summary:This paper aims to discuss some major and important issues concerning the predictive maintenance of high voltage devices (switches, surge-arresters, etc.). Real data was mainly obtained from the industrial environment and used for establishing a monitoring and diagnosing digital based procedure, for efficiently testing the technical state of their main HV contacts. All solutions described here are applicable to many other high voltage devices like surge-arresters, disconnectors etc. A simple fuzzy-logic algorithm is used to determine the main elements related to the predictive maintenance. This algorithm could be implemented as a software tools for all high voltage equipment maintenance. It could be an example of implementing advanced mathematical and software solution for the refurbishment of existing high voltage equipment.
