Summary:MMC AC-side current is subject to distortion by background harmonic current under low load conditions. In this paper, the generation mechanism of background harmonic current at MMC AC side was studied, and the influence of background harmonics on capacitor voltage of MMC sub-modules was analyzed. On the basis of this, the harmonic current generated by a particular background harmonic was calculated and the generating rules of harmonic current were obtained. MMC harmonic mathematical model was established, and AC-side harmonic current suppression strategy was proposed. A simulation model based on the field parameters of flexible DC transmission project was built, and the control strategy of this paper was verified by the simulation. The simulation results show that the harmonic current composition is consistent with the theoretical analysis, and each harmonic component is effectively suppressed, which proves the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
