Summary:With the popularization of high dynamic range (HDR) devices, many tone mapping techniques have been proposed. By analyzing the relationship between the architecture of specific processors and path-wise retinex tone mapping technique, and by applying perceptual quality assessment of images collected from human observers, this paper proposes a novel path-wise retinex optimization method. A peculiar feature of this approach is the way its parameters can be adjusted to tradeoff its performance in speed and in perceptual quality. Experiments and results are presented and discussed.
