Summary:The use of ICT does not yield automatically an improvement in educational outcomes, a careful analysis of what and how students learn should be undertaken. To achieve an effective learning process, higher education teachers need to re-assess teaching and assessment methods to meet students' needs and preferences. In our paper we present a project-based online collaborative teaching/learning methodology for high number of students taking the course "Applied informatics" at BCCB, based on: (a) generating effective student groups on the basis of student profiles, (b) support online project work and effective cooperation among students and (c) peer and self evaluation methods.
