Summary:A method to determine the absorption depth profile in soils using microwave thermal emission measurements under the metal screen is proposed. The absorption profile is obtained from the brightness temperature of thermal emission measured at successive removing of the upper soil layers. The problem is reduced to the simple expression and applied for the soil absorption profiling at the wavelength lambda = 3 cm. Results of this approach are compared to the absorption profile calculated using the model of the effective dielectric permittivity by simultaneously measured soil parameters
