Summary:A compact spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) array antenna with bandpass filtering characteristic and enhanced scanning rate is proposed in this paper. The bandpass filtering response is realized by utilizing the low-pass characteristic of SSPPs and a high-pass element in the transition section of SSPPs. The scanning rate is enhanced by increasing the groove depth of SSPPs so that the cut-off frequency of SSPPs is aligned with the upper band edge. To further reduce array size, L-shaped strips are proposed to increase the coupling between SSPPs and array elements, resulting in the elimination of one port. Both the high-pass element and modified flared ground can improve impedance matching. For demonstration, a prototype operating at 7 GHz was designed, fabricated and measured. The bandpass filtering characteristic is achieved with out-of-band suppression levels larger than 15 dB. An average gain of 9.8 dBi is obtained over the passband. Over the operating band from 6 to 7.8 GHz, a wide scanning range of -29^{\circ}\sim+47^{\circ} is achieved with a corresponding unit scanning range of 42.2^{\circ}/\mathbf{GHz} and a scanning rate of 2.9.
