Abstract Curriculum design of ESD is not to regard ESD as a separate subject but to integrate ESD into curriculum system of basic education. It include of fundamental value selection and design of curriculum content and curriculum implementation. Facing with the implementation of concept of scientific development and international implementation scheme of ESD, the first textbook with core of values of sustainable development in Beijing is compiled. This paper present the principles and practices of curriculum design as follows:1. Education adapting to local social &environmental and economic development is logical start of curriculum design; 2. Values of sustainable development is the main threads of curriculum design; 3. Activity design is focus of curriculum design; 4. Developing rich ESD resource is vitality source of curriculum design
