서산대사의 「심법요초(心法要抄)」에 관한 서지적 연구

이 연구에서는 서산대사가 저술한 「심법요초」를 중심으로 저자인 휴정의 생애와 저술, 「심법요초」의 간행자와 간행처, 판본 등을 분석하였다. 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 「심법요초」의 저자인 서산대사는 조선중기의 유불을 통섭한 승려로서 국가의 위기를 구하기 위해 전장으로 나선 행동하는 지식인이다. 현전하는 「심법요초」는 안심사판본과 해인사판본의 2종이 전하는데, 간행에 관해서는 간기가 있는 안심사판본을 중심으로 논의하였다. 안심사판 「심법요초」의 서문과 발문을 보면, 「심법요초」가 세상에 전해져서 간행되는 데에 기여한 사람은 ① 서산의 저술인 「심법요초」를 보관하여 남긴 소요 태능(逍遙 太能), ② 그 가치를 알아보고 유포하고자 한 목양 색(牧羊 賾), ③ 목양 색을 도와서 「심법요초」를 간행한 추계 유문(秋溪 有文), ④ 「심법요초」의 가치를 높이 평가하고 서문을 썼던 백곡 처능(白谷 處能)의 4인이다. 이들의 법계를 보면, 4인 모두 임제종파의 벽송 지엄(碧松 智嚴)과 부용 영관(芙蓉 靈觀)의 계통을 잇는 청허계나 부휴계의 영향력 있는 승려였다. 안심사판 「심법요초」는 “時甲辰菊月日大芚山安心寺新刊留置”라고 간기에 기록되어 있듯이, 전라도 고산의 대둔산 안심사에서 1664년에 간행되었다. 안심사에서 활동했던 백곡 처능이 안심사를 중흥하고자 우의정 김석주에게 <안심사 사적비>의 비문을 받으러 갔으며, 한편으로는 당시 사회적으로 명망이 높았던 서산의 「심법요초」 간행을 지원했던 것으로 파악된다. 현전하는 「심법요초」 안심사판본과 해인사판본은 둘 다 목판본으로 판식, 편차, 부록의 내용이 상이한 이본이다. 안심사판본과 비교할 때, 해인사판본은 부록에 서산대사의 시 대신에 사명대사와 완허당의 글이 실려 있다. 이로 미루어 해인사판본은 서산의 여러 문파 가운데 사명파에서 인출한 것으로 추측된다. This study analyzes the life and works of Hyujung(休靜) and focuses on the bibliographic characteristics of Shimbubyocho(心法要抄), written by Buddhist Master Seosan(西山大師). Through this focus, the study analyzes the life and works of author Hyujung(休靜). The results of the analysis are as follows:Buddhist Master Seosan was a monk who made consilience between Confucianism and Buddhism and one of the active intellectuals who went into battle in order to rally against the crisis facing his nation. The existing editions of the Shimbubyocho were published at Anshim Temple(安心寺) in 1664 and at Haein Temple(海印寺). This study focuses mainly on the edition from Anshim Temple, especially in relation to publishing aspects, as the Haein Temple edition doesn’t have any information in regards to publishing. As referenced in the preface and postface of the Shimbubyocho, there are four people who contributed to its publication: Soyo Taeneung(逍遙 太能), Mokyang Saek(牧羊 賾), Choogye Yoomoon(秋溪 有文) and Baekgok Cheoneung(白谷 處能). These monks share a Buddhist lineage, connected to the mentors of Imjejong(臨濟宗), Byeoksong Jieom(碧松 智嚴) and Booyong Younggwan(芙蓉 靈觀). This is indicative of a close relationship between these four masters. The existing editions of the Shimbubyocho, that of Anshim Temple and that of Haein Temple, are both woodblock editions and these two editions have different bibliographic characteristics. Of note, as the Haein Temple edition also features the texts of Seosan and Wanheodang(玩虛堂), it appears that the Buddhist lineage of Samyeong was revealed, at that time, through the publishing of the Haein Temple edition.
