『우복집』의 「잡저」에 나타나는 정경세의 시대정신

본 연구의 목적은 『우복집』의 「잡저(雜著)」 중 14편의 분석을 통하여 우복을 지배하고 있는 그의 시대정신을 귀납적으로 유추하는데 있다. 분석대상을 첫째, 군자의 수양과 노인 공경. 둘째, 선현 존중과 선비의 처세. 셋째, 義의 추구와 사회풍속의 개혁. 넷째, 호국방책과 무인의 자세 등의 네 가지 관점에 초점을 맞추어 고찰하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 군자는 항상 학문을 좋아하고 그릇된 일을 하지 말며 혹 잘못을 저질렀으면 즉시 깨닫고 반성하여 종신토록 반복하지 않아야 한다. 또한 수행방법으로 항상 겸양하고 성실할 것을 권면하였으며, 공공장소에서 좌석에 나이 순서대로 앉도록 하여 노인을 공경하도록 하였다. 둘째, 후생들이 선현의 도(道)를 높이 떠받들고 섬기게 하기 위한 수단으로 서원(書院)건립의 중요성을 역설하였으며, 선비는 공직에 있을 때는 죽기를 각오하는 충분(忠憤)을 가지고 임해야 하지만 초야(草野)에 있을 경우에는 부화뇌동하지 않는 신중한 자세를 견지할 것을 권면하였다. 셋째, 문헌기록에 의해 잘못된 현상을 지적하고 수정토록 하여 학자들로 하여금 올바른 길로 인도하였으며, 잘못된 사회풍속에 대하여는 사회개혁 차원으로 발전시키려고 노력하였다. 넷째, 왜적(倭敵)의 침입에 대한 방책으로 성을 축조하여 요새를 구축하고 양곡을 비축할 것과 사대부에게는 忠과 義로서 분발할 것을 강조하였다. 내란에 대비하기 위해서는 의병모집과 군량 및 자금 모금, 보상 등에 대한 내용을 제시하여 백성들의 자발적인 참여를 유도하였다. 또한 武人은 오직 나라를 위해 의롭게 죽는 것을 덕목으로 여겼다. The purpose of this study is to analogically inference Ubok Kyung Sae Chung’s zeitgeist theory and explore his belief by analyzing 14 excerpts from his widely known works Japjuh in Ubokjip. I can conclude that there are four major focuses on his studies. First, the needs for wise man’s moral training and importance of building admiration for the elders. Second, respect for ancient sages and recommended behaviors as a scholar. Third, the pursuance of loyalty and the reformation of the social culture. Last, the attitude that a patriot and a soldier should have towards the country. Of the focuses mentioned, Ubok Specifically emphasized on the below in his theory. ∙Emphasized that scholars should enjoy learning and should always try to avoid physical and mental wrongdoing. He also advised that scholars should remain humble and show diligence in everything they do. ∙Suggested to build lecture halls to revere and serve the ancient sages, and also advised scholars the ways to protect their loyalty while they are in public service. ∙Provided the fellow scholars the directions to develop while attempting to reform the culture by correcting any inappropriate social behaviors. ∙Promoted to reserve crops and to build fortresses to protect the country from any foreign enemies. Also suggested to draft solders and collect funds to minimize the risk for rebellions, and induced people to join the military voluntarily.
