Abstract | Headspace solid-phase microextraction(HS-SPME)/GC-MS is a rapid and sensitive method for the analysis of trace organic pollutants in water. In this study, this method was optimized for the analysis of 2-methylisoborneol(MIB) and geosmin. Operating parameters such as fiber types, extraction temperature, extraction time, desorption temperature, desorption time, and ionic strength were optimized to improve the method accuracy and sensitivity. Among various fibers, divinylbenzene/carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (DVB/CAR/PDMS)-coated fiber provided effective response enhancement. The fiber extraction efficiency was the highest at 60 ℃ for 30 minutes. Desorption time of three minutes was enough for complete desorption at 265 ℃ with a NaCl concentration of 25 %. The linearity of this method for the analysis of 2-MIB and geosmin within the range of 0-100 ng/L was satisfactory with a correlation coefficient above 0.998.
