Case records for children referred to a child guidance center in the UK after deliberately trying to harm themselves are drawn on to study self-poisoning in 25 Asian & 25 Caucasian adolescents. Cultural conflicts were the most important factors in the parasuicidal behavior of Asian children, whereas a variety of factors led to parasuicidal behavior of Caucasians with a predominance of a disrupted family background.
