A temperature rise analysis of switched reluctance motor due to the core and copper loss by FEM

Summary: | This paper describes a temperature analysis due to core and copper loss in switched reluctance motor (SRM) by both two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) finite-element analysis. The analysis is coupled with the loss distribution calculated by 2-D finite-element method. We discuss the effect of a convective heat exchange on the temperature rise. In particular, the calculation is implemented taking into account the heat transfer in the forced convection on condition that the temperature of the inside air of SRM is rising. As a result, it is clear that the consideration of temperature rise of inside air in SRM is necessary for more accurate calculations. |
