Pesticide concentrations ranged between 0.07 and 4.8 μg/l according to the compound and sampling period. Analytical results were linked to the environmental risk of pesticides, evaluated by their system investigation of risk by integration of score (SIRIS) rank. Water samples were collected from the Vannetin River at Epauche, France, and pesticide residues were measured using a multi-residue high-performance liquid chromatography method coupled with UV diode array detection and/or mass spectrometry. The Vannetin River is a tributary of the Marne River. The residues detected were compared with those expected from a regional priority list of pesticides based on their use and physicochemical properties. Atrazine, simazine, their metabolites, and metabenzthiazuon were found in all samples at concentrations ranging 0.2 4.8 mu g/l. The analytical methods performed well. Some differences were found between the pesticide occurrences and their regional priority list rankings, indicating the presence of possible flaws in the risk assessment and environmental impact of pesticides. |
