However, in an environment that subjects find more difficult, one in which one dimension is relevant along with the pattern of two additional dimensions, an effect was found. Unitary stimuli were found to facilitate utilization of configural information, but no difference was found for utilization of dimensional information. |

Using a nonmetric multiple-cue probability learning task with 2 relevant dimensions and additional relevant configural information, no differences were found in utilization for these 2 types of stimuli. However, in an environment in which one dimension is relevant along with the pattern of 2 additional dimensions - an environment that subjects find more difficult - an effect was found. Unitary stimuli were found to facilitate utilization of configural information, but no difference was found for utilization of dimensional information. Hence, there is now strong evidence that unitary stimuli can facilitate the processing of configural information without having an emergent feature responsible for the enhancement.
