The reaction proceeds through sulfonic acid group‐directed multiple CH activations and involves the cleavage of CH and OH bonds as well as the formation of CC and CO bonds. Our protocol provides a facile access to aromatic sultones.
Simple arenes have been successfully utilized in the Pd‐catalyzed CH activation of arylsulfonic acids leading to aromatic sultones. Aromatic sultones could be obtained by the palladium‐catalyzed cyclization reaction of arylsulfonic acids with simple arenes. The reaction proceeds through sulfonic acid group‐directed multiple CH activations and involves the cleavage of CH and OH bonds as well as the formation of CC and CO bonds.
