Summary:In a combined electrophysiological and anatomical study, the parabolic burster neuron R15 was found to project axons through the genito-pericardial nerve onto the pericardial wall and digestive gland sheath and, more variably, into the heart and pericardial coelom. Projection into these tissues is consistent with the hypothesis that R15 is neurosecretory and may play a role in circulation and/or ion-water regulation in Aplysia.
