Summary:•We describe a 100kW electron beam to X-rays conversion system.•We give an idea to improve the conversion efficiency and lifetime of the target.•We describe the design and thermal characteristics of the X-ray converter. X-ray conversion is a frequent need for irradiating the products that cannot be processed by electron beams, duo to their limited penetration capacity in materials, in radiation sterilization of disposable healthcare products and food irradiation. In this paper, we report the design of a conversion facility with a 5-MeV/120-kW electron accelerator, regarding the considerations on selection of the target materials and target structure, design of the electron beam transport line and approaches to improve the conversion efficiency and lifetime.
