| Abstract | Sweet potato weevils of the genus Cylas were collected by sweeping and beating foliage of sweet potato and adjacent plants, by collecting directly from roots and by using pheromone traps. Specimens of Cylas formicaius are known from only two localities in Africa: Msabaha, Kenya and the Natal Province, South Africa. The field observations are consistent with most phylogenic and distributional evidence which suggests that the center of origin of C. formicarius was in India and occurrence in Africa is probably the result of recent human introductions |
