Summary:Polyoxovanadates (POVs), as one of the most prominent members of polyoxometalates (POMs), have been subject to extensive studies by virtue of their aesthetically intriguing structures and potential applications in catalysis, magnetism, and optics, among others. In recent years, organo-functionalized POVs have received considerable attention due to the combination of the advantages of POVs with the importance of organic species. In this review, the key developments of polyoxovanadates and, particularly, the achievements that are related to polyoxovanadates modified with organic ligands and transition metal-organic ligand are summarized. Herein, we systematically introduce the structural features of organo-functionalized POVs and their main applications involved in the magnetism and catalysis aspects. Finally, the current challenges and future prospects in the design, synthesis, and property investigation of polyoxovanadates are also discussed. The latest progress on polyoxovanadates modified with organic ligands or transition metals and organic ligands is summarized. Not only the structural features and main applications but also the challenges and the focus of future research on POV-based materials are discussed.
Bibliography:Zeyu Du obtained his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering in 2019 from Nanjing Tech University. He is currently a PhD candidate under the guidance of Prof. Yan Xu at Nanjing Tech University. His research interests mainly focus on the design and synthesis of new polyoxometalates (POMs) and metal organic frameworks (MOFs), and their application in heterogeneous catalysis.
Xiaomei Liu received her BS degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology from Nanjing Tech University in 2019. Now, she is pursuing her MS degree in Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Yan Xu at Nanjing Tech University. Her main research interest is related to the synthesis and relevant applications of POM-based materials.
Professor Yan Xu received his PhD from the Department of Chemistry, Jilin University in 1998. He was a JSPS Fellow at Kyoto University from 2002 to 2004. He is currently a Full Professor at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Nanjing Tech University. Prof. Xu is active in the field of coordination chemistry. His current research interests focus on the development of POM-based materials and porous materials for applications in catalysis, magnetism, and optics.
Jilei Wang graduated from Jiangsu University of Technology of China with a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology. He is currently a Master's student under the guidance of Prof. Yan Xu at Nanjing Tech University. His research interests mainly focus on the design and synthesis of new polyoxovanadates modified with organic ligands and their catalytic oxidation properties.
