AbstractList Self-generated magnetic fields have been observed on spherical targets irradiated with one or four laser beams in the ablative regime. Megagauss magnetic fields were seen when the targets were illuminated nonuniformly, while no large scale magnetic fields above the detection threshold of 100 kG were observed with uniform illumination.
