Chinese manufacturing efficiency is compared to that of the USA, the UK, Germany, Japan and Korea.
AbstractList Historical developments of Chinese industry, especially the manufacturing industry up to 1999, are reviewed, and Chinese manufacturing efficiency is analyzed and evaluated from three kinds of measuring methods: 1. yield rate, 2. efficiency index, and 3. relative productivity. Chinese manufacturing efficiency is compared to that of the US, the UK, Germany, Japan and Korea. Some results of the study include: 1. China's industrial growth (nominal value) up to 1999 is 90 times for the nominal gross domestic product (GDP), 101.3 times for tertiary industry, and 34.4 times for agriculture, while the manufacturing industry has increased 182.9 times. 2. In 1999 China's GDP was US$991.2 billion, 7th in the world's ranking. 3. The performance of Chinese manufacturing is high from the viewpoints of the efficiency index and the relative productivity, compared to the US, the UK, Germany, Japan and Korea.
