Summary:The fine structure of Periplaneta americana hemocytes revealed the first instance of cytoplasmic microtubule marginal bundles in an invertebrate system. Marginal bundle arrangements were consistent with the discoid shape of the hemocytes and were similar to previously described microtubule orientations in vertebrate platelets. In addition, 4 types of membrane-bound cytoplasmic inclusions were described including a unique inclusion containing cylinders (9–80 per inclusion) measuring ∼ 800 Å in diameter and 0.8–1.5 μ in length.
