The case record in the October 18 issue describes a young woman with lupus erythematosus. Dr. Long explains, "Corticosteroid therapy was discontinued after three days because. . .of a steroid-induced psychosis." This was followed two days later by a generalized seizure and coma and, finally, death attributed to sepsis.
We propose that Central-nervous-system (CNS) lupus is the more likely explanation for the changes in mental status and the seizures.
