Summary:To the Editor: The case record in the October 18 issue describes a young woman with lupus erythematosus. Dr. Long explains, "Corticosteroid therapy was discontinued after three days because. . .of a steroid-induced psychosis." This was followed two days later by a generalized seizure and coma and, finally, death attributed to sepsis. We propose that Central-nervous-system (CNS) lupus is the more likely explanation for the changes in mental status and the seizures. The excellent review by Feinglass et al. describes psychiatric symptoms in 24 of 140 patients with lupus, usually as an early feature of the illness in association with . . .
