Summary: | A combustion tube packed with two rolled platinum nets was used to decompose organic compounds containing two or more halogens excluding iodine. The section of the tube containing platinum nets was heated at 880900°C. Purified and moistened oxygen was passed at a flow rate of 10 ml min-1. An absorption bottle was attached with a bowl joint to the end of the combustion tube. The combustion products were introduced to the absorption bottle through a nozzle and stirred with a round polyethylene-covered stirrer. Deionized water was most suitable as an absorption solution. After diluting the absorption solution with an 8 mM sodium carbonate8 mM sodium hydrogen carbonate solution up to the concentration of the eluent, 100 μl of the sample solution was injected into a YOKOGAWA HOKUSHIN IC 100 ion chromatograph. The eluent was a 4 mM sodium carbonate-4 mM sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and flowed at 2 ml min-1. By comparing vessels made of borosilicate glass, quartz, fluorine containing resin and polyethylene, it was found that the blank value was minimum in quartz and polyethylene vessels. Thus, the quartz absorption bottle and polyethylene flask for diluting were used in this method. It was possible to use the combustion tube 500700 times. The recoveries of fluoride, chloride and bromide ions were 99.899.9% and the relative standard deviations were 0.0023, 0.0030 and 0.0024, respectively. |
