Summary: | The widespread Baganda conversions were seen as a great missionary success story, in which Apolo epitomized and exemplified what CMS missionaries had prayed for: a native agent who showed lifelong commitment to the spreading of the Gospel and a willingness to sacrifice personal comfort and advancement for this goal. Yet Apolo's work of preaching, teaching, praying, church planting, and training of evangelists is remembered in Uganda, where a numb er of churches and scho ols are named after him and he features in textbooks on Christian education from primary to A levels.1 The Province de l'Eglise Anglicane du Congo regards him as its founder and commemorates the anniversary of his death every year in Boga. |
