Bismuth oxide iodate (BiOIO3) was used to remove elemental mercury (Hg0) in recent years, due to its suitable position of valence band. While its low response to visible light and high recombination rate of electron-hole pairs limit the industrial application. In this work, the BiOIO3/graphene heterostructures were prepared successfully via the hydrothermal method, and series of characterization analysis were implemented. The prepared BiOIO3/GR composite have enhanced photocatalytic properties than pure BiOIO3. The density functional theoretical (DFT) calculation of the interfacial heterojunction between BiOIO3 (010) facet and graphene sheet further verifies the internal mechanism of improving photocatalytic performance. This work will give some help for mercury pollution control in coal-fired power plant and other similar pollutant control areas.
