| Abstract | The incidence of scoliosis in patients with congenital heart disease has been foundto be considerably higher than in the youthful population at large. Furthermore, patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease have a remarkably greater incidence of scoliosis than patients with acyanotic cardiac malformations. The etiology of the spinal abnormality, apart from those patients with vertebral malformations, is not completely clear, although statistically there appears to be some relation to the side of thoracotomy. Rapid progression of scoliosis during adolescence is often encountered; careful, frequent follow-up of patients at that time is warranted. |
