Study on the Relationship between Passenger Cars’ Empty-loaded Rate and Traffic Volume on Shenyang Arterial Road

Abstract | With the rapid development of urbanization and motorization, the proportion of the passenger cars is high, especially the empty-loaded rate has become one of the important factors causing traffic congestion. Based on the empty-loaded rate survey of passenger cars on the two arterial roads in Shenyang, a model which inflecting the relationship among passenger cars’ empty-loaded rate and carpool rate and traffic volume is established and verified by comparative analysis and curve fitting, and the empty-loaded passenger cars driving condition is forecasted. The results show that the average passenger cars’ empty-loaded rate is about 67.4% and the passenger cars’ empty-loaded rate in the morning rush is between 56% and 84.3%. When the traffic congestion, the passenger cars’ empty-loaded rate is inversely related to traffic volume and the carpool rate is positively related to traffic volume in the morning rush, and the relationship between passenger cars’ empty-loaded rate and traffic volume is not significant in the flat peak. Study on passenger cars’ empty-loaded rate has great significance on improving traffic conditions, encouraging the carpool and reducing the traffic congestion. |
