Summary:Structural response to the ground excitations and the ground response to a moving load on the soil surface are considered. The reduction of the structural response is achieved by reducing the ground vibrations using a trench and a wave-impeding barrier (wib). The numerical investigation is performed by using a boundary element and finite element method. The response of the structure increases with the moving speed of the load, independent of the reduction approach. The investigation reveals that both trench and wave barrier can be used as a reduction measure.
