Summary:The mobility of some metals in woody plants was investigated by using a model system simulating natural conditions. The system comprises chromatography of metals on paper impregnated with compounds otherwise incorporated into lignified cell walls, and on slices of different woods. The metals were subjected to ascending chromatography using water as the developing solvent. The results indicated that the interference of the compounds tested is reflected by chromatographic acceleration or retardation of metals.
