Abstract Energy-efficient resource allocation in a single-user, amplify-and-forward (AF), relay-assisted, multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system is considered in this paper. Previous results in this area assume that perfect CSI is available for at least one of the source-relay and relay-destination channels. Instead, the case in which statistical CSI is available for both the source-relay and relay-destination channel is tackled in this letter. Using fractional programming theory and the alternating maximization algorithm, low-complexity source and relay precoding is performed, subject to quality-of-service (QoS) and power constraints.
