Summary:Harmonic content of the line current of mains-connected equipment destined for use in Europe is regulated by IEC 1000-3-2. This standard defines four different classes for electronic equipment (class A, B, C, D). These classes establish different current harmonic limits depending on the use of the electronic equipment. Class A and class D are applied to equipment classified in the field of consumer electronics such as television receivers, personal computers, home electrical appliance, audio equipment, etc. This paper presents the analysis and design procedure of the input section of electronic equipment classified as class A. This novel analysis describes how to select the values for the filter in order to improve the margin of compliance.
