Abstract An autoradiographic study was made of the diffusion of the ions 212Pb 2+, 241Am 3+ and 239Pu 4+ in ion-exchange membranes of polystyrenesulphonic acid type, as functions of the diffusion time, the temperature and the hydrogen ion concentration of the solution in contact with the membranes. The activation energy of the diffusion process was determined from the temperature-dependence of the diffusion constant.
