Summary:The efficiency of particle identification by energy loss analysis is improved with the availability of a fast and accurate method for calculation of the energy loss spectrum. In this paper a simple algorithm based on the Laplace transform method will be given. The algorithm differs from earlier approaches with this method in that it makes use of Fast Fourier Transform routines instead of numerical integration or series expansion. This makes it possible to speed up the calculations without any significant loss of information, i.e. the cross section differential in energy does not need to be approximated.
