Dielectric properties of anhydrous and hemihydrated lanthanum iodates

The nonbonded electron pairs and high refractive index of the iodate ion have been held responsible for the occurrence of noncentrosymmetric structures of alpha -iodic acid and the iodates of alkali metals, ammonium and thallium(I). Many of these are pyroelectric and piezoelectric materials. As a pa...

Summary:The nonbonded electron pairs and high refractive index of the iodate ion have been held responsible for the occurrence of noncentrosymmetric structures of alpha -iodic acid and the iodates of alkali metals, ammonium and thallium(I). Many of these are pyroelectric and piezoelectric materials. As a part of their continued interest in the thermodynamics of phase transition of alkaline earth and rare earth iodates the authors report here the dielectric properties of La(IO sub(3)) sub(3) and La(IO sub(3)) sub(3) multiplied by 0.5H sub(2)O. The studies made with all other rare earth iodates will be the subject of a detailed report.
