Summary:Xylitol based phase selective organogelators are developed for crude oil of varying API gravity and various petroleum fractions/oils. Intermolecular hydrogen bonding was responsible for gel formation with three dimensional cross linked networks. Efficient gelation at room temperature, high mechanical strength, oil recovery and gelator reusability make these compounds promising candidates for oil spill mitigation.
