Summary: | Biotransformation of linear alkylbenzenesulphonates (LAS) under anoxic conditions has not been reported previously. Anaerobic bacteria have been enriched which utilized LAS quantitatively as the sole added source of sulphur for growth in a glucose‐salts medium. One isolate, strain RZLAS, was examined and found to belong to a novel genus within the γ‐proteobacteria. |
