Abstract | The piezoelectrochemical effect is a new phenomenon that converts mechanical energy into electrochemical energy. This phenomenon has the potential to be used for a range of applications, including energy storage, catalytic degradation, and others. The goal of this study is to give a brief overview of the piezoelectric effect, piezoelectrochemical conversion, and the importance of integrating energy harvesting devices with energy storage and piezoelectric-induced catalytic activities. Further, it provides a summary of the piezoelectrochemical effect and energy conversion mechanism that exist in hybrid integrated systems intended for self-powered operation and also discusses the various aspects of piezocatalysis. This review article also looks at the strategies for designing and constructing hybrid piezoelectrochemical devices for use in energy and environmental applications. Finally, we present an appraisal of the most recent research on hybrid piezoelectrochemical device technologies for simultaneous electricity generation and storage, as well as utilization of this electrical energy for various applications such as self-charging power cells (Li-ion batteries, supercapacitors), and the degradation of organic pollutants via piezoelectrochemical effect.
