Abstract | Escherichia coli is a prevalent pathogen for several fatal ailments, including dysentery, typhoid fever, viral and bacterial gastroenteritis, hepatitis A, diarrhea, and others. Diagnosing a pathogen is indeed a global subject targeting safe public health. Various conventional detection techniques, including bacterial culture, polymerase chain reaction, or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, are highly time-consuming and necessitate skilled manpower. This letter demonstrates the development of an efficient plasmonic sensing technique for sensitively detecting Escherichia coli in water. Herein, plasmonic nanostructures-gold nanorods have been immobilized with complementary aptamers for detecting the targeted pathogen up to a limit of detection of 0.91 CFU/mL. The developed platform could be applicable in developing a point-of-detection device for various other pathogen detection. |
