Summary: | The trend toward centralization of population has created new problems in health care both in the sparsely settled hinterlands and within the resultant crowded urban areas. Communication links, including closed-circuit television, are already providing new means for consultation and for rendering psychiatric assistance. Wireless cardiac monitoring is helping to prevent relapse in coronary patients and transmission of electrocardiograms from moving vehicles is a dramatic step in delivering the patient alive to the emergency room. This report summarizes the conclusions of an Engineering Foundation Conference on ``Engineering in Medicine-Biotelemetry'' held at New England College, Henniker, N.H., August 2-4, 1971. |
